Hailing from Ottawa, Pierre Hardy studied at Université du Québec, earning a bachelor’s degree in visual arts in 1988. Though he painted murals while in school, he truly began to flourish after, when he developed global reach—more than a hundred of his works dot the globe—and earned widespread acclaim. He has explored multiple styles and techniques throughout his career, and has most recently been producing “peoplescapes”. Now, a wall on Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace has joined his oeuvre and been transformed into a majestic portrayal of Burlington and Vermont History. Welcome to the rising of ELAP, a piece of Vermont History in its own right.

Join in on 400 years of Burlington and Vermont history since Champlain’s voyage in 1609: a celebration of American Dreams. The people you see in this mural are known as the builders, leaders and champions who contributed to what Burlington, Vermont is all about today. The wall is not large enough to fit all who qualify. It took one year to paint this mural in a studio. It is hand painted and it was produced using current mural art best parctices. This mural project was commissioned by Church Street Marketplace and was paid for by a group of progressive entrepreneurs.

The mural contains many different aspects of Burlington and Vermont history.

Informative maps are available that explain the figures, places, and objects featured, providing a vital key for  understanding the mural.
